Health and Safety - Statement of Policy

HJL Underfloor Ltd is committed to the Health and Safety of its employees, sub-contractors and associates. The highest standards of performance is of vital importance in achieving these safety objectives and HJL seeks to conduct its operations in such a way so as to avoid harm to all who may be directly, or indirectly, affected by its actions.

HJL Underfloor Ltd will ensure that employees, sub-contractors and associates have the required skills, competence and support, in order to meet stringent H & S objectives. In addition, HJL encourages the involvement of all employees, sub-contractors and associates in the establishment of measures to improve their health and safety on site through cooperation, self-discipline and a high level of awareness of the risks prevalent on construction sites.

Sub-Contractors working on behalf of HJL must demonstrate their compliance with the company’s H & S standards.

1. Main Policy Objectives

To work towards the prevention of all injuries and work-related ill health by ensuring that all concerned are familiar with both generalised and site specific risks. This is communicated through job-specific risk assessments and work methodologies.

1.1 To provide a safe and healthy working environment.

1.2 To establish and maintain safe working practices throughout each and every contract process.

1.3 To provide properly engineered facilities, plant and equipment and in particular PPE.

1.4 To regularly assess and review risks associated with site practices in an effort to afford continuous improvement.

1.5 To acknowledge and work with Governmental, Local Authority and Professional Bodies in order to promote improved health and safety.

1.6 To provide essential training for all employees, sub-contractors and associates, including basic first aid and A & E procedures.

1.7 To effectively investigate and report all incidents with potential to cause injury.

1.8 To plan effectively the prevention of accidents at all key stages of the contract process, including design, installation and commissioning of systems.

2. Organisation and Responsibilities

The responsibility for implementing this policy remains directly and personally with every employee, sub-contractor or associate on site, from the Managing Director through project managers and supervisors to individual site operatives.

Policy objectives will be communicated on a regular basis to all concerned with positive leadership by example from the Managing Director.

2.1 Managing Director

The Managing Director is ultimately responsible for implementation of this policy and the migration of its content to all concerned, to ensure that all objectives are met.

Communication throughout each element of the site management team and site operatives will be regular, open and relevant, with positive leadership by example from the top. Organisation and responsibilities are detailed in Appendix (i).

2.2 H & S Procedures

Specific procedures for the provision of effective Health & Safety are detailed in Appendix (ii).

3.0 Information and Communication

HJL Underfloor Ltd. will ensure that suitable and relevant information relating to Health and Safety at work is distributed to all managers, operatives, sub-contractors and associates. Changes in operating procedures or legislation will be communicated through amended documentation and regular briefings as required.

4.0 Review

The Managing Director is ultimately responsible for implementation and continual review of this policy and the migration of its content to all concerned, in order to ensure that all objectives are met. This Policy will be reviewed annually and where necessary, updated prior to re-issue as required.

Environmental Policy

Environment - Statement of Policy

HJL Underfloor Ltd recognises the importance of environmental legislation and other requirements to which the company subscribes and seeks to continually improve its environmental performance, working toward the prevention of pollution by adhering to the commitments hereinafter stated.

1. Responsibilities

The Managing Director, through his nominated representatives, is responsible for the effective coordina-tion and communication of this policy and ensuring that sufficient personnel and resources are made available to effect implementation.

On-site project managers, supervisors, operatives and sub-contractors are responsible for monitoring environmental management on site and contributing to an effective improvement programme including:

1.1 Day-to-day management of environmental performance

1.2 Achieving progress against KPI’s

1.3 Ensuring high standards of environmental care at all times.


2. Environmental Management System

HJL Underfloor Ltd manages pollution and environmental impacts where possible by adopting best practices suited to individual sites, particular to:

2.1 Efficient use of energy and other resources;

2.2 Monitoring of emissions and their reduction wherever practicable;

2.3 Use environmentally friendly products wherever practicable;

2.4 Make efficient use of water resources, monitor discharges and work towards reducing these wherever reasonably practicable;

2.5 Prevent spillages and operate contingency plans to clean up any spillages that do occur;

2.6 Work towards minimising waste and maximising recycling, whilst ensuring that, where applica-ble, wastes are managed safely in accordance with current legislation;

2.7 Monitor noise levels and address any excess levels / causes of complaint;

2.8 Minimise packaging usage consistent with requirements for product protection and distribution;

2.9 Maintain high standards of “housekeeping” and site appearance;

2.10 Set targets to assist achievement of the above objectives;

2.11 Carry out regular environmental audits and monitor progress.

3. Training

HJL Underfloor Ltd undertakes to train all managers, supervisors, operatives and sub-contractors in an effort to attain a high standard of environmental awareness and performance and in particular:

3.1 To assess environmental performance, where applicable, both through personal development reviews and regular sub-contractor appraisals;

4. Environmental Considerations

HJL Underfloor Ltd undertakes to take into account environmental considerations during all aspects of the contract process, particularly site works and will:

4.1 Follow procedures to ensure environmental issues are given high priority and are considered along with commercial, safety and other factors affecting business decisions.

5. Environmental Impact

HJL Underfloor Ltd undertakes to consider the environmental impact of all products utilised during the contract process and in particular life-cycle considerations. Further the company will :

5.1 Communicate relevant Company environmental procedures and requirements to managers, su-pervisors, operatives, sub-contractors and suppliers.

5.2 Monitor performance and where possible, maximise the proportion of recycled materials used during the contract process;

5.3 Wherever possible, assure the supply of durable products and minimise the impact of end-of-life disposal.

6. Consultation

HJL Underfloor Ltd undertakes to communicate openly and consult with all interested parties concerning environmental issues, including:

6.1 Discussing/disseminating environmental issues during team briefings and internal newslet-ters;

6.2 Communicating openly with interested parties on issues of concern;

6.3 Making this Policy and the site environmental objectives publicly available.


7. Review
